REDMOND, Wash. ― 2008年５月18日 Microsoftは以下の声明を配布
MicrosoftのYahoo買収提案の撤回発表以後の状況（展開）を勘案し、Microsoftは、オンラインサービスと広告の事業の拡張と向上のための代替案を引き続き行っていくことを発表しました。
Microsoftは、Yahooと全株式を取得するのではない、代わりの取り引き案を提案し、検討しています。（コメント：完全な買収ではなく、Yahooに対して出資する等を検討）
Microsoftは、現時点ではYahooの全株式を取得するために新たな（買収の）提示を行うことはしていません、しかし、将来の状況やYahooとの話し合い、またはYahooあるいはMicrosoftの株主, 他の機関との話し合いによっては、代替え案の再検討を行う権利を保持します。（コメント：状況によっては、買収の再検討をする余地があることを示している。）
当然のことながら、これらの話し合いの結果によって、（金銭的な）取り引きが行われる保証はございません。

“In light of developments since the withdrawal of the Microsoft proposal to acquire Yahoo! Inc., Microsoft announced that it is continuing to explore and pursue its alternatives to improve and expand its online services and advertising business. Microsoft is considering and has raised with Yahoo! an alternative that would involve a transaction with Yahoo! but not an acquisition of all of Yahoo! Microsoft is not proposing to make a new bid to acquire all of Yahoo! at this time, but reserves the right to reconsider that alternative depending on future developments and discussions that may take place with Yahoo! or discussions with shareholders of Yahoo! or Microsoft or with other third parties.
“There of course can be no assurance that any transaction will result from these discussions.”
